Be
By Danika Kraus
Be
Be a pineapple
Stand tall, wear a crown
Be a watermelon
Colorful on the outside, sweet on the inside
Be a fruitloop
In a world full of cheerios
Be chocolate
You make everyone’s day a whole lot better
Be a pickle
In a room full of cucumbers
Be an apple
People like you sweet
Be a strawberry
Goes good with everything
Be a cookie
Good to have on a bad day
Be a grape
People can’t get enough of you
Be you
Because that’s the best thing you can do.
Fifteen addition poems were selected in Upper Grades division for publication. Two middle schoolers poems were among these, “Write,” by Jack Krotz, 7th grade, and “Paz,” a bilingual poem by 8th grader Jared Diaz.
Write
By Jack Krotz
I was told by momma
Writing is an amazing thing
Remember to use my commas
Remember to never let your words sting
Words can hurt
Words can heal
So stay alert
And only write words that give appeal
When you write your poems
You fill me with joy
For your words will cross oceans
Keep writing your poems my boy
Paz
By Jared Diaz
El agua fluye suavemente.
Lana suave en un cordero nuevo
Un corazón que se ablanda.
Translated:
Peace
The water flows smoothly.
Soft wool on a new lamb
A heart that softens.
